Overview

Insolito Bar, tucked away at Viale dell'Autodromo 35 in Modena, is a culinary gem that captures the essence of traditional Emilia-Romagna cuisine with an inviting, unpretentious charm. This modest yet vibrant spot, located just steps from the lush Enzo Ferrari Park and the city's historic center, offers an authentic taste of Modenese culture through simple, home-cooked dishes and a warm atmosphere.

The star of Insolito Bar’s menu is undeniably the gnocco fritto—a light, airy fried dough that melts in your mouth, perfectly paired with an assortment of local cold cuts and cheeses. Customers repeatedly highlight the exceptional quality of this dish, often described as a "cloud of happiness" that carries the bold flavors of the region. Alongside, the tigelle—traditional flatbreads from Modena—are another must-try, especially when paired with mixed salumi and formaggi, delivering a rustic, hearty experience that feels both nostalgic and deeply rooted in local tradition.

The offerings don’t stop there. Piadine and borlengo add variety, while desserts such as mascarpone with Torta Barozzi provide a satisfying end to the meal. The beverage selection, featuring several varieties of Lambrusco and local craft beers, complements these dishes impeccably, enhancing the overall dining experience with flavors that celebrate the local terroir.

Insolito Bar’s ambiance plays a crucial role in its charm. Situated with views over Ferrari Park, diners enjoy a relaxed and laid-back setting that invites both locals and visitors seeking genuine Modenese hospitality. The simplicity of the space, coupled with attentive and friendly service, fosters a sense of community—where authentic flavors take center stage without unnecessary fuss.

A simple place with great local food. Go for the gnocco fritto & tigelle with mixed cold cuts. As the owners describe it theirselves: "la forchetta è di plastica, ma il gnocco è d'oro", "The fork is made of plastic but the gnocco fritto is made of gold".

Locals-only experience in Enzo Ferrari park one breath away from Modena’s Centro Storico. We loved the vibe and the laid back ambience of this spot and the gnocco was outstanding! Like a cloud of happiness that melts in your mouth with delectable cold cuts, washed down with a good glass of Lambrusco. Doesn’t get more Modenese than that!

Good range of tigelle, gnocco fritto as well as piadinas. Best if you escort this yummy food with some local wine like lambrusco, in one of the several available variety. I'll be back there, next time I'm in Modena
